Recovery

Race weekend recovery: where Macau's runners and race fans get their legs back.

Twice in three weeks, Macau hands itself over to racing. The 73rd Macau Grand Prix takes over the Guia Circuit from 19 to 22 November 2026, and the 45th Macao International Marathon starts at 6:00am on Sunday 6 December. Both weekends leave bodies wrecked: runners on the start line in Taipa, spectators on their feet around the circuit for four days. Here is where to recover, what to book, and the timing rules that make a massage help instead of hurt.

Key facts

The dates
Grand Prix: 19–22 November 2026 (Guia Circuit, Peninsula). Marathon: Sunday 6 December 2026, marathon and half marathon start 6:00am, mini marathon 6:20am, Olympic Sports Centre Stadium, Taipa.
Timing rule
Gentle on race day: leg flush, foot reflexology, heat and steam. Deep tissue and sports massage belong 24 to 48 hours later.
Open latest
V Spa at The Venetian, daily 12:00–04:00. Foot Recreation (Taipa and Peninsula) and Thai Xi Spa (Grand Emperor Hotel) are open 24 hours.
Book ahead
Grand Prix weekend is under three weeks away and its prime spa slots are the ones going first. For the marathon, the bookings that matter are race day afternoon and Monday 7 December. Buy the voucher, then reserve the slot directly with the spa: the voucher alone does not hold a time.

What to book, and when

Recovery timing: runners first, spectators second

Before the marathon. Bib collection week is the natural window: you will be at Broadway Macau between Wednesday 2 and Friday 4 December (noon to 9pm) or on Saturday 5 December (10am to 10pm) anyway, and Cotai's spas are on the same trip. If you want a pre-race massage, book it two or three days out and keep it light. Race week is not the moment to try deep tissue for the first time, and nothing vigorous belongs in the final 48 hours before a 6:00am start.

Race day itself. You finish in Taipa in the late morning, wrecked and hungry. What helps now is gentle: a foot reflexology session, a light leg massage, or the sauna, steam and vitality pool that come with a hotel spa treatment. Heavy pressure on freshly raced muscles is the one thing to avoid.

The day after, and the day after that. This is when the real work pays off. A deep tissue or sports massage 24 to 48 hours after the race, once the acute soreness has settled, is the booking most runners actually need. V Spa's Trip.com voucher includes a Deep Muscle option built for exactly this.

Spectators are athletes too, sort of. Four days of grandstands, stairs, standing room and walking the length of the Guia Circuit leaves calves and backs in their own kind of trouble. Foot massage after each race day, and a head, neck and shoulder session for grandstand posture, are the standard fixes. The venues below split by side of the city: Peninsula for the Grand Prix, Cotai and Taipa for the marathon.

Where to go

Spas and massage for race weekends

01

V Spa at The Venetian Macao

CotaiDaily 12:00–04:00Bookable online

The recovery anchor in Cotai. It opens at noon, just as marathon finishers are sitting down to lunch, and runs to 4am for anyone whose race day ran long. The Trip.com voucher is a 60-minute massage with four choices, including a Deep Muscle massage for the day after the race. Vitality lounges with sauna, jacuzzi and steam are included with the treatment: arrive early and use them first.

02

Le SPA'tique at The Parisian Macao

Cotai · Level 6, The Parisian MacaoDaily 11:30–01:30Bookable online

The calmer Cotai option, open until 1:30am, with steam, sauna, a vitality pool and quiet lounges: a good race-night wind-down rather than a fix-up. The Trip.com aromatherapy voucher is valid to 31 December 2026 and its blackout dates do not cover either race weekend, but it does require advance reservation, so lock the slot in early.

03

Sands Spa at Sands Macao

Peninsula · Sands MacaoOpen to 01:00Bookable online

The Grand Prix side of the city. Sands Macao sits by Fisherman's Wharf, minutes from the circuit, and the spa stays open to 1am: foot reflexology and massage after a full day in the grandstands, without crossing to Cotai. Facilities include a jacuzzi, plunge pool, steam room and sauna.

04

The Ritz-Carlton Spa, Macau

Cotai · Galaxy MacauBookable online

The proper recovery day: separate ladies' and gentlemen's vitality pools, steam rooms, saunas, ice fountains and a thermal circuit, all included with a treatment. Book it for the Monday after the marathon, or the afternoon after the Grand Prix finals, when you have time to do it slowly. Klook sells the vouchers; reserve the slot with the spa.

05

Foot Hub at Galaxy Macau

Cotai · Galaxy MacauDaily 11:00–24:00Walk in

The closest serious foot massage to the marathon start and finish in Taipa: a huge reflexology hall (9,000 sqm, 67 beds) inside Galaxy Macau, a short hop from the Olympic Sports Centre Stadium. Doors open at 11:00, which lines up with mid-pack finishers. No voucher, no booking: walk in, soak, get worked on.

06

Foot Recreation (足之樂)

Taipa (Rua do Cunha) and Peninsula (Av. da Amizade)Open 24 hours, 365 daysWalk in · 18+ only

The safety net for both weekends, with a branch on each side of the water. The Taipa branch sits in the old village, near the marathon stadium; the Peninsula branch is on Avenida da Amizade, the road that runs along the Grand Prix circuit. Foot baths, foot massage and full-body aromatherapy, at whatever hour you get there. Walk-ins only, and the fixed-price 60-minute vouchers keep it simple.

07

Thai Xi Spa at the Grand Emperor Hotel

Peninsula · 20F, Grand Emperor HotelOpen 24 hours, 365 daysWalk in

The 24-hour Thai massage option in the city centre, a short walk from the circuit side of town: 30-minute head, shoulder and neck sessions for grandstand necks, 60-minute aromatherapy oil massage, and a 90-minute oil spa with bubble bath. Southeast Asian therapists, walk-ins through the night. See the full late-night guide for how the after-hours options compare.

Good to know

Practical tips for race weekends

Book the spa this week, not race week. When this page was published in October there was a month to go; the Grand Prix now starts on 19 November, and the slots everyone wants, Friday and Saturday evenings and the afternoon after the finals, are the first to fill. Marathon recovery slots for Sunday 6 and Monday 7 December are still the easier booking, but they will not stay that way once bib collection week starts. The routine that works: buy a Klook or Trip.com voucher now, then phone the spa and reserve your slot. The voucher alone does not hold a time. How vouchers work.

Tell the therapist you raced. Marathon legs and grandstand calves need different work from a normal tired traveller, and a good therapist will change the pressure and the focus if you say so up front.

Mind the clock on Grand Prix days. Roads around the Guia Circuit close to normal traffic, and crossing the Peninsula takes longer than the map suggests. Peninsula venues (Sands Spa, Foot Recreation, Thai Xi Spa) save you the trip to Cotai after the racing ends.

Marathon morning is early and busy. Bib collection runs at Broadway Macau from noon to 9pm on 2, 3 and 4 December, and from 10am to 10pm on Saturday 5 December: bring your registration receipt and ID, and do not leave it to the Saturday queue if you can help it. The stadium doors open at 5am on race day and the races start at 6:00am in Taipa. If you are spectating rather than running, the 24-hour shops mean you can get a foot massage in while the field is still out on the bridges, and Foot Hub at Galaxy Macau opens at 11:00, in time for the mid pack finishers heading back through Cotai.

Hydrate before and after. Obvious, and still the thing everyone forgets. Water first, massage second, celebratory drinks after that, in that order.

Questions

Frequently asked

When are Macau's 2026 race weekends?

The 73rd Macau Grand Prix runs 19 to 22 November 2026 on the Guia Circuit. The 45th Macao International Marathon is on Sunday 6 December 2026, starting at 6:00am from the Olympic Sports Centre Stadium in Taipa.

Should I get a massage right after running the marathon?

A gentle one, yes. On race day keep it light: a leg flush, foot reflexology, or a soak and steam at a hotel spa. Save deep tissue and sports massage for 24 to 48 hours later, when the muscles have settled.

Do I need to book spa treatments ahead on race weekends?

Yes, and for the Grand Prix the honest answer is now. The race starts on 19 November, under three weeks away, and weekend evening slots at the bookable spas go first. For the marathon on 6 December there is a little more room, but book before bib collection week (2 to 5 December) if you want a specific time on race day or the day after. Buy a Klook or Trip.com voucher in advance, then reserve your time slot directly with the spa. The 24-hour foot massage shops take walk-ins if plans slip.

Where can spectators recover after a day at the Grand Prix?

On the Peninsula side of the circuit: Sands Spa at Sands Macao (open to 1am), Foot Recreation on Avenida da Amizade and Thai Xi Spa at the Grand Emperor Hotel (both 24 hours). In Cotai, V Spa at The Venetian stays open until 4am.

What is open early enough for marathon morning, or late enough for race night?

Foot Recreation (Taipa and Peninsula) and Thai Xi Spa are open 24 hours. Foot Hub at Galaxy Macau opens at 11:00, V Spa runs noon to 4am, and Le SPA'tique at The Parisian runs until 1:30am.
